I've been spot-checking random URLs with PageSpeed and other tools to see if they find anything to complain about. Alas, they often do!

So I've been cleaning up technical slippage ... fixing validation, compressing images, minifying CSS, adding missing ALTs, tweaking for accessibility, and so on.

It's been a while since I did cleanup at that level and it's satisfying to watch the scores improve.

Will it help my SEO? I dunno, but it won't hurt!

I’m reminded of g1smd’s “technical SEO”: things you have no excuse not to get right (chained redirect, that kind of thing) before moving on to fancier changes.

:: uneasily wondering why on earth PS thinks my front page has a "noindex" meta ::

Things were going well until a typo in a template caused chaos. Cue some nervous trouble-shooting ....

A single character in the wrong place can break thousands of pages!

Traffic is up slightly on the site I worked on most, as mentioned above, Normally, user visits would be trending down at this time of year. Coincidence?

I'm inspired to look for more tidying opportunities. :-)
